Definitions & Acronyms
Common TEA terms and acronyms
- TEA
- Texas Education Agency — the state agency that oversees public K–12 education in Texas, publishes TAPR data, and assigns A–F accountability ratings.
- TAPR
- Texas Academic Performance Report — TEA's annual district- and campus-level data release covering STAAR results, graduation, CCMR, attendance, and more.
- DIP
- District Improvement Plan — CISD's annually adopted plan with measurable performance objectives, strategies, and formative review checkpoints for each school year.
- STAAR
- State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness — standardized exams administered in grades 3–8 and via End-of-Course (EOC) tests in high school.
- EOC
- End of Course — high school STAAR exams required for graduation: English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History.
- Approaches GL
- Approaches Grade Level — the minimum passing standard on STAAR; students scoring at this level are considered on track at a basic level.
- Meets GL
- Meets Grade Level — the intermediate STAAR standard indicating solid grade-level performance; used most often in DIP targets.
- Masters GL
- Masters Grade Level — the highest STAAR performance level, indicating advanced understanding of grade-level content.
- CCMR
- College, Career, & Military Readiness — the percentage of graduates who meet at least one readiness indicator (TSI scores, AP/IB exams, industry certifications, or military enlistment).
- Econ. Disadvantaged
- Students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals, or who have been identified as economically disadvantaged through other state criteria.
- Emergent Bilingual / ELL
- Students identified as English Language Learners (ELL) who are currently receiving bilingual or ESL services. Also labeled "EB/EL (Current)" in TAPR data.
- Special Education
- Students who receive services under an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Also labeled "Special Ed (Current)" in TAPR data.
- TxCHSE
- Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency — a GED-equivalent credential counted alongside traditional graduates in Texas graduation rate calculations.
- A–F Rating
- TEA's annual district and campus accountability rating (A through F) based on three domains: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps.
- Formative Review
- Mid-year progress checkpoints (December, March, June) within the DIP where each strategy is rated: No Progress, Some Progress, Considerable, Accomplished, Continue/Modify, or Discontinue.
- Divergence
- A flag on this site indicating that CISD self-reported progress or success on an objective, but TEA state data shows the numeric target was not met.
